10/7/19: Week #5 Update

4/22/2020

Dear Choir Parents, Welcome to Fall Follies Tech Week!! With the upcoming shows this Friday and Saturday, our choirs, directors and musicians will be working hard to perfect their performances. Please remind your student that time management is very important this week. They should be using down time during rehearsals to do homework and study, they should stay hydrated, eat well and get a good night’s sleep. To that end, your student should bring a water bottle to rehearsals and the choir boosters will be providing grab and go food for the students each evening. Most importantly, we hope they have fun. We are looking forward to a great show! Here are a few additional Choir items you may want to know this week:

FALL FOLLIES— Is this Friday and Saturday, October 11 and 12. Tickets for Fall Follies are now on Sale. Click here for tickets: http://www.gpsouthchoir.org/2019- fall-follies/ Please display your GP South Choir lawn signs to let passersby know there is a concert this week. For new families, you can pick up your lawn sign (or have your student get it) from the choir room any time this week after 12:30pm tomorrow.

COUPON BOOKS FUNDRAISER — Money due this week. The first deadline to turn in coupon books money is this Friday October 11th. Money is due to Anita Adams in the choir office in a clearly marked envelope with your students name, how many books sold, and how much is in the envelope. Please remind your student to send an email to (or call or visit) neighbors, friends and family and sell the coupon books this week. If any students need assistance selling their books, please contact Perry Calisi at perry1353@gmail.com. Remember, all books sold by your student beyond the required 10 puts $10/book into your student’s choir savings account.

JOIN THE BOOSTERS— We are still trying to get full participation. Click here to become a booster: http://www.gpsouthchoir.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/2019- 2020-Choir-Booster-Membership-Appplication.pdf

VOLUNTEER NEEDS— Thank you to all of you who signed up to volunteer to help the Choir. Click here to volunteer: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c084faca7238- volunteer3 Ironing help needed this week! Our hard working costume moms are requesting a few volunteers to help iron this Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday starting at 5:00pm at the North Performing Arts Center. They will have 3 ironing boards set up, or bring your own, to help get costumes ready for dress rehearsal on Thursday. Stay as long as you can. Please text Linda Calisi at 313.409.0127 to let her know when you can help.

VOLUNTEER SHOUT OUTS THIS WEEK— Thank you to the parents who volunteered to feed our kids this week during their long Tech Week rehearsals each day. Thank you to our meal-train chair, Denise Carozza, and volunteers Deb Frantz, Ginny Jeup, Miekea Ibekwe, and Alex O’Dell. They will be providing healthy food for 115 students and 12 directors and PAC tech crew at approximately 5:30pm MondayThursday this week. There will be fruit, veggies, granola bars and a dessert each day in addition to a main course such as subs, pizza etc. (This is your choir registration meal fee at work.). Thank you to each of these parents for taking care of our kids this week.

THE CHOIR ALL-FAMILY GARAGE SALE— Every October, families from all across the district donate items to the Choir garage sale. If you have items you would like to donate, please contact our garage sale chair, Miekea Ibekwe: miekeaibekwe81@gmail.com. We will be accepting donated items at the MPR (the multi-purpose room) at South on October 21- 24. The sale is Saturday and Sunday, October 25 and 26th in the MPR. We typically make between $6,000 and $8,000 on the all-choir garage sale, but only when we get good donations and market the sale well. So please help if you can. If you are interested in helping to set up or price items or sell at the garage sale, please sign up on the choir sign up genius above.

TECH REHEARSALS THIS WEEK— All Choirs will be at the North Performing Arts Center from 3:30pm-8:30pm Monday-Thursday. If your student needs a ride to the PAC please have him or her talk to a dance captain or company manager. Please make sure your student has a water bottle, snacks and takes advantage of down time during rehearsal to do homework and study.

Thank you for supporting your student’s Choir program. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us. With Warmest Regards, Laura Sanom-Fleming and Katherine Brandon 2019-20 Choir Booster Presidents president@gpsouthchoir.org
