Alumni Spotlight"I have been in choir since I moved here in 2009. Its only until I got into high school that choir started to make a big difference in my life. I remember when I was signing up for classes for high school back in middle school, my mom warned me that the choir at South isn't the same as the choir in middle school. Boy was she right.
I went into choir expecting the same thing from middle school but I was quickly proven wrong. Choir was tough. You had to dance and sing for hours like your life depended on it. I almost quit my first year. I'm glad I didn't because if I did, there would be so many people that I would never had met and become friends with. Over these past four years, I have been able to grow my self confidence and I have been given so much love and support from people within this program. I started choir as someone who was kinda shy and didn't know anyone in choir. I was always nervous about solos and I only audition for small solos in competition sets and mass numbers. But as I moved through high school, I started to gain more confidence in my ability to sing and perform. So I decided my senior year to do a curtain solo for the first time. It was such a great experience and it made me feel happy and confident. I don't regret joining choir for a second and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys the idea of meeting new people and who likes the idea of performing." - Mohamad Kaddouh, Class of 2020 |
The GP LookGrosse Pointe South Choir has a magical way of making shows sparkle. The students spend dozens of hours of their time, both in class and in rehearsal; getting ready for shows. That's why before the performances, students pay attention to the shoes they wear, and what their hair looks like.
The star of each performance is the unity of excellence that comes from doing things to the choir standards each time. To keep the tradition and high bar of excellence, learn more below about what makes GP South Choir the best in the Nation. |
Student LeadershipEach year, a new set of leaders are elected to lead the choir student body. These leaders provide support during times of adversity and also join the celebrations in times of triumph!
Responsibility, independence, leadership are all characters of the choir student executive board. Which often help with the organization, problem solving, and rallying that often takes place in the choir groups. A representative for the younger choir students, these leaders often help students navigate the trying times of high school and often go out of their way to assist and help all students. If you’d like to be on the executive board, or help with their mission, please contact below. |
“I graduated with a BFA in Musical Theater from the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music. ... Without choir, I wouldn’t have developed the passion and discipline that I now possess. It helped me develop a strong work ethic, a love for music, and helped me form friendships that I still have today.” - Frankie Thams, Class of 2015
