The Heart of the Program

Volunteer Today!

The Singers and Parents Create the Show

Our Choral Students and families are the heart of the program. The students are talented and determined, putting in hours of challenging work to perform their best at every show and competition. While their families help, love, and support the singers and volunteer to help run the program. Without them, it would be difficult to maintain the tradition of excellence.

You Create the Show.

Our Grosse Pointe South Choir families are the heart of the program. The students put in their hard work , determination and talent to practice and perform their best at every show and competition. However, without the help, love and support of their parents and families, the program would be unable to maintain our tradition of excellence.

Students will find that participating in the program with their fellow choir mates is a rewarding experience. Working together as a team to execute brilliant choreography and vocal arrangements, they support each other through the challenging rehearsals and tech weeks. Throughout their years in choir, they develop self-esteem and confidence and many students blossom into leaders within the choir.

While watching their child perform is always a moment of pride for moms and dads, being a choir parent provides an opportunity to be involved in you child's interests, even if you are tone-deaf. The parent community surrounding the choir is a strong one. The Boosters help to make sure the parents have opportunities to support their children through volunteer in a variety of ways that no matter what your talent is, there is a job for you! Being a choir parent also has a social side to it as well. There are several chances to get to know other choir families throughout the year, such as during our annual Spring Fling fundraiser, and many families decide to travel to support their students at regional and national competitions, which gives parents a chance to get to bond with others in the program.

Performance Ready

Grosse Pointe South Choir has a magical way of making shows sparkle. The students spend dozens of hours of their time, both in class and in rehearsal; getting ready for shows. That's why before the performances, students pay attention to the shoes they wear, and what their hair looks like.

The star of each performance is the unity of excellence that comes from doing things to the choir standards each time.

To keep the tradition and high bar of excellence, learn more below about what makes GP South Choir one of the best in the nation.

Student Leadership

Each year, a new set of leaders are elected to lead the choir student body. These leaders provide support during times of adversity and also join the celebrations in times of triumph!

Responsibility, independence, leadership are all characters of the choir student executive board. Which often help with the organization, problem solving, and rallying that often takes place in the choir groups.

A representative for the younger choir students, these leaders often help students navigate the trying times of high school and often go out of their way to assist and help all students.

“I graduated with a BFA in Musical Theater from the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music. ... Without choir, I wouldn’t have developed the passion and discipline that I now possess.  It helped me develop a strong work ethic, a love for music, and helped me form friendships that I still have today.” - Frankie Thams, Class of 2015
